WHAT IS A CV JOINT OR DRIVE AXLE
CV joints are constantly velocity joints. They’re part of the front-wheel-drive system or an all-wheel-drive assembly. Firstly, the CV joint lets the shaft transfer power to the wheel from the transmission while you change the angle. For example, think of it as a drive shaft that gets pushed up and down as the car turns corners or goes over bumps. There are two on each side of your car. One CV joint is next to the transmission on the inside, and the other CV joint is next to the wheel’s hub on the outside.
HOW DOES A MERCEDES CV JOINT WORK?
First, you have to know that your CV axle runs between the wheel hub and your transmission, and it features one CV joint on each end of the axle shaft. The joints accommodate several angles and movements that the axle has to perform as part of your vehicle’s front-wheel-drive system. Additionally, this is a universal joint that gets housed in a cup. So, the cup allows the joint to flex in different directions and slide in and out while the axle spins. These two sounds indicate that you have a broken or worn-out CV joint. To test it, get into an open space where you can turn your vehicle in a full circle. Drive the car in a circle and listen for clicking or popping. If you hear it, you most likely have an issue with this joint.
